Knellwood is a family where we all support each other and go the extra mile to ensure our residents live full and happy lives.

When people move into a care home, it can be a rather worrying experience, but we are always available to offer support and guidance. We encourage them to  cherish their connection with family and friends, plus any community links they may have, and also to join in with the full range of activities we offer, where they can make new friends and become part of our community.

Knellwood is fortunate to have two excellent activities co-ordinators, who, along with the staff, ensure that our residents feel supported and valued. The activities we offer are chosen by our residents. Each week an ‘Activities’ leaflet is available for residents to plan the week ahead, and family members are encouraged to join in. Activities in-house include baking, art, keep-fit, ‘knit’n’natter’, sewing, gardening, karaoke and various games. There is also a choir and a residents’ commitee.

The ‘Magic Table’ has proved very popular with residents and their families. It is a specialist piece of technology with an interactive light projector, creating many colourful games on the table which respond to hand and arm movements. It has a positive effect on well-being by improving mood, reducing apathy and increasing engagement and interaction between residents.

We have many visiting entertainers, plus massage therapy, pamper sessions and trips out. Family days are celebrated, including the summer fete, bonfire night, Halloween, the Christmas party, Mothers and Father’s Day visits and many more.

Trips are organised throughout the year and families are welcome to join us. It’s a great way to continue to build memories. We have recently visited Brooklands, the Milestones Museum, Birdworld, the Watercress Line and enjoyed a boat trip on the canal.

Every resident’s birthday is celebrated with a present, a home-made cake and a treat of their choice, such as a pub lunch or a visit to a garden centre or the cinema.

Each month, a Residents’ Meeting is held, where everyone can express their wishes, worries or concerns in a supportive environment. It is also a great way to get together with tea, cake and sherry!

We have a monthly Newsletter, detailing events at Knellwood with stories and photos, which is available for residents and relatives to keep and enjoy. There is also a photo board where residents and families can take the photos as a keepsake.
